Modeling Crime Underreporting in Bogotá: A Spatial Autoregressive Crime Panel Model with Fixed Effects, , with
Subal Kumbhakar, and Luis Sandoval (2021)
About: The main objective of this paper is to address two challenges that emerge while working with crime data: (i) spatial interactions (crime spillover) and (ii) the underreporting which is common in police crime data. To address (i) we use a spatial autoregressive panel data model with fixed effects. For (ii) we use stochastic frontier as a tool and interpret inefficiency as underreporting. We implement the methodology to a rich database of police-reported crimes in Bogotá, Colombia, over 2010-2018.
The Effects of Hiring Discrimination over the Business Cycle, with Florian Kuhn, (submitted)
About: We explore whether hiring discrimination implies a higher volatility of labor market outcomes for discriminated groups in the context of a standard search-and-matching model with an urn-ball matching function..
Business Cycles, Worker Flows, and Hiring Discrimination (2020)
About: In this paper I extend the search-and-matching model used in the paper with F. Kuhn to allow endogenous separations. I study whether differences in productivity may affect our overall results regarding the effects of hiring discrimination over the Business Cycle.
Energy prices, firms’ productivity and market power by industry. Evidence from a developing country, (2020)
About: In this paper I study whether energy prices affects Chilean manufacturing firms’ productivity and markups by industry.
A Violent Crime Index with a Non-Zero Probability of Underreporting
About: We propose an approach to aggregate different violent crime variables into one crime index. We implement the proposed index to a detailed database of police-reported crimes in Bogota, Colombia, over 2010-2018.
